It remained in service until 13th May 1986 and is seen four days after withdrawal at Toton on the 17th. The locomotive was cut up at Vic Berry's yard, Leicester, during July 1988.

The locomotive is seen at Doncaster Works on 22nd June 1986 and was withdrawn in October of that year when it was decided repairs would be too costly. 31436 was cut up at Doncaster in December 1986 and was the last loco to be dismantled there.
